MONROVIA DAYS 2020
at home with you
Celebrating Monrovia's Birthday
Every year, we look forward to connecting with our community members and partners to celebrate Monrovia’s birthday. But given the growing concerns around COVID-19, we’ve made the difficult decision to change what that celebration looks like this year.
This was a really tough call to make – Monrovia Days is one of our town’s favorite ways to get together and celebrate our hometown and recognize the scholars and champions who have worked so hard all year. But our first priority is to do our part to help protect the health and safety of all our community members and partners, just like you! We explored many ideas to keep the parade and other parts of our event, but it just didn’t feel right to move forward when we couldn’t include everyone.
In place of our usual parade, carnival and live - local entertainment we have planned a unique experience for you to {virtually} join your friends and neighbors and wish Monrovia a happy birthday right from the comfort and safety of your home.
This year we will be creating a commemorative video with birthday wishes from you, our community that will be aired during a special Facebook Watch Party on May 16, 2020. To participate, we are asking you to send in short videos with Happy Birthday Monrovia wishes from you and your family. And while we will not be able to have our traditional parade and other festivities, you can show us your Monrovia pride by sending us a video of your own parade in your backyard or living room or how your family does a pie eating contest – we would love to see how you celebrate! In the meantime, we appreciate your patience and understanding while we all navigate this difficult time together. Stay well neighbors, we look forward to hearing from you!
